19th and 20th April was the opening rounds of Prodrift IRL and Prodrift EU.
I travelled over with Tom Yates, Jon Beezy and Dan Chapman of Drift Republic.
We also met up with Ben ”Bon bon” smith, Declan Hicks and Danny Eyles.
It was an over cast and cold weekend, but it didn’t stop the drivers giving it their all and getting used to the circuit.
Only Bon bon and Declan Hicks made it through to the top 16, qualifying 14th and 15th.

the top 16 was an exciting battle of drivers, especially when Bon bon in his Driftworks Chaser was against Mike Deane in his Nissan Silvia, it was such a close call between the two that they were called “one more time” twice, and it was only on thier 6th run was it decided that Mike had just beaten Bon to take a place in the top 8.
It was during the top 8 that we got to see a rather interesting battle between “flat Eric” and James Deane.

the 16 year old driver did extremely well against Eric, knocking him out and taking his
place in the semi finals, against Darren McNamara.
The semi finals saw Darren McNamara V James Deane and Damien Mulvey V Alan Lenihan.
First up Darren V James, it was a very close call between the two drivers, who couldn’t of been more different.
Darren having driven in America as a Professional Driver for Team Falken and James who was the 2007 season Newbie,
but unfortunately for James he lost 3rd gear and his place in the final.
It was a very close call between the two and James is certainly someone to keep an eye on in the future.
Then we saw Damien Mulvey V Alan Lenihan.
It was an interesting battle between the two drivers, who both drive for Hankook.
The first lap saw Alan beat Damien 7-3 followed by a 5-5 round, which secured Alan’s place in the final against Darren.

THE FINAL
Darren and Alan, both experienced drivers had last met in 2006 at punchestown, but alot had happened for both
drivers since then that we all watched in anticipation to see who would secure a win at the first round of the 2008 season.
It was a very tough call for the judges who scored the first 3 laps 5-5… it was only on the 4th round that we saw Alan take the win by the tighest of differences with a 5.5- 4.5.
